The Central Missouri Region is among the 14 Missouri workforce development boards that will receive emergency funding from the Humanitarian Jobs Grant in June 2020.
The Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development will receive $1.33 million on June 1 from the U.S. Department of Labor for COVID-19 disaster recovery, creating temporary employment opportunities to assist in the COVID-19 recovery efforts.
As part of Gov. Mike Parson’s “Show Me Strong” Recovery Plan, the Humanitarian Jobs Grant will employ up to 100 temporary positions to help workers and businesses in a variety of ways. Some of these employment options will include humanitarian work, including health care employment, grocery and medicine delivery, and other COVID-19 service-related jobs. Other job opportunities include temporary employment, job center services and training opportunities.
Mardy Leathers, Director of the Office of Workforce Development said of the grant,
We are please to receive this award, which will help fund opportunities for displaced workers while also contributing to COVID-19 recovery efforts.
The Office of Workforce Development, along with the U.S. Department of Labor, will work with the Central Workforce Development Board, along with other regions to utilize the grant funds appropriately.
