There is good news for Central Missouri and the labor market. The Missouri Economic and Research Information Center (MERIC) recently released the September 2020 monthly jobs report, showing that Missouri is continuing to recover strong.

Employment increased by 13,000 jobs over the month. The unemployment rate decreased to 4.9% compared to August’s rate of 7%.

You can view the specific numbers for the Central Region here.

According to MERIC, “Missouri’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate has now been either below or equal to the national rate for 67 consecutive months. The national unemployment rate was 7.9 percent in September 2020.”

Though the unemployment rates are still close to 50% higher than that of September 2019’s rates due to COVID-19, we are optimistic about continue to lower that rate as we continue to strengthen communities through workforce development efforts.
