As the summer of 2020 approached, things were looking grim for Kimberly Fisher. Unemployed due to COVID-19, life for her was uncertain.
“I didn’t know what I was going to do in order to provide for myself,” said Kimberly. Although I was looking for employment, I wasn’t getting any offers. Yet the bills were piling up and medical demands were going unfulfilled.”
Feeling hopeless yet determined to do more than just sit around and wait, Fisher heard about the Capitol City Job Center through a friend and decided to see what she could do to find a satisfying career pathway that could help her build a brighter future.
“I knew I needed to do something that would be me an opportunity to learn and gain more knowledge to add to my skills for future employment.”
Career Consultants Wendy Williams & Christina Abbott worked closely with Kimberly to help her decide on the perfect career pathway. Soon after, Fisher was enrolled in the warehouseman training program at Warehouseman Training, Inc., in Kansas City, Mo.
Through the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA), Kimberly went through the warehouseman training program with a focus on the administrative assistant and supply chain tech field.
Fisher completed her training in July of 2020 and is now employed with the State of Missouri as a Benefit Program Specialist with full benefits.
Kimberly says of her time through the uncertainty of a pandemic, she has learned to be more confident. “I was able to complete a program which would give me another accomplishment under my belt.”
Our Career Consultants strive to serve each client to the best of their ability, not only helping them find employment, but working hard to instill confidence as them embark on new journeys.
“I have to give a shoutout to Wendy and Christina for their professionalism, consistency and genuine concern for me,” said Fisher. “In the beginning it was really rough. I was in a rough place and Wendy made me feel like I wasn’t alone and helped in any way she could. Wendy stuck with me the whole way and I am forever grateful. Christina picked up right where Wendy left off and she hasn’t missed a beat. Those ladies are the best and anyone who has the chance to work with them is definitely in good hands. Thank you again for the opportunity.”
Congratulations Kimberly! We’re proud of you!
