The Central Region hosted four different CDL recruitment events on November 15 & 16 at the Columbia, Jefferson City, Lebanon, and Rolla Job Centers to foster interest in the thriving trucking industry. Forty prospective candidates attended the events.

Representatives from MoDot, Farmer Companies, Clement Truck Driving Academy, and Coca-Cola delivered presentations on the prevailing job market and setting expectations for new CDL drivers within their respective organizations. These sessions provided aspiring drivers with a comprehensive understanding of potential career trajectories in the ever-evolving landscape of the trucking industry.

“People may want to get a CDL, and they may want to work a better job and do some driving but can’t afford it,” said grant coordinator James Thompson of the Central Ozarks Private Industry Council (COPIC). “So with the grant opportunity, it allows those people who may not necessarily be able to afford it to pay for the class.”

Intake sessions will begin the week after Thanksgiving to establish grant eligibility for interested individuals.
