On April 21, 2026, the Columbia Job Center partnered with Harry S. Truman Memorial Veterans’ Hospital to host a Veteran and Spouse Hiring Fair in Columbia, Missouri. The event brought together 42 job seekers and several regional employers for a focused afternoon of networking, career conversations, and direct connections between talent and opportunity.

A Strong Turnout from the Veteran Community

Of the 42 job seekers who attended, 32 were veterans and 10 were non-veteran participants, including military spouses and community members. The strong veteran turnout reflects both the need for targeted hiring events and the hunger for meaningful career opportunities among those who have served.

Why Events Like This Matter

Veterans and military spouses bring a unique set of skills to the workforce — leadership, discipline, adaptability, and hands-on experience that translates across industries. Despite those qualifications, this population is often under-recruited in traditional hiring pipelines.

“Events like this one exist because connection matters,” said Sundi Jo Graham, Communications and Workforce Development Professional with the Central Workforce Development Region. “Veterans have served this country with everything they have. The least we can do is make sure they have a direct path to employers who are ready to hire them. Seeing that kind of energy in the room is exactly why we do this work.”
