The Columbia Job Center recently facilitated a series of impactful resume workshops and a highly successful job placement event in collaboration with Otscon, showcasing the power of community partnership and support.
On June 25th and 26th, the Columbia Job Center hosted four resume workshops at Otscon’s facility at 50 N. Rangeline Rd. The workshops were conducted in both morning and afternoon sessions, assisting 27 customers in refining their resumes and enhancing their job readiness.
Following the workshops, the much-anticipated Otscon ETT Job Fair took place on July 16th at the Columbia Chamber of Commerce Banquet Room. The event was a remarkable success, with 43 employers attending, eager to connect with potential candidates. This event was a critical component of Otscon’s “Finish Strong” initiative, designed to support their employees during the planned decommissioning of the Columbia plant by October 2024.
Otscon expressed its gratitude to the Columbia Job Center and its partners for their exceptional support and collaboration. An email from Otscon’s leadership highlighted the efforts of multiple state departments and agencies, particularly the Rapid Response Team, led by Jessica Tate and supported by Roger Brisley and Nichelle Pool.

“Rapid Response had spent numerous days with us giving us a comprehensive presentation of what services could be available for separated employees as well as services in assisting Otscon HR constructing resumes for each of our employees,” said Blake Morris, Human Resource Business Partner for Otscon, Inc.
The team’s comprehensive presentations and services were crucial in assisting Otscon employees with resume construction and providing guidance on continuing education opportunities.
Thirty-one companies from Columbia and surrounding areas participated in the job placement event, significantly contributing to the success of Otscon’s efforts to support its employees during this transitional period.
Otscon is currently conducting a follow-up questionnaire to gauge satisfaction with the event and gather information on employees’ specific interests in the attending companies. This feedback will be instrumental in setting up interviews and assisting employees in completing their assignments to receive the “Stay Bonus” upon the plant’s decommissioning.
