The Central Workforce Development Board is pleased to announce the appointment of John Butz, City Administrator for the City of Rolla.
John Butz has served as City Administrator for the City of Rolla for over 24 years. Prior to joining the city in 1997, he previously served as Assistant City Administrator and then City Administrator for the City of Sullivan, Missouri for nearly 9 years.
A graduate of Rockhurst University where he received his bachelor’s degree in Economics and Political Science, John received his Master’s Degree in Public Policy Administration from the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
An active member of the Missouri Municipal League for over 30 years, John served on the MML Board of Directors from 2006-2008 and received the MML Distinguished Service Award in 2010. In 2007 John was presented the J.T. Bell Professional Management Award by the Missouri City Management Association as the Outstanding City Administrator of the Year.

He is also a member of the Missouri City Managers Association, International City Management Association, and International Personnel Management Association. Locally John is a member of the Board of Directors of the Community Partnership and represents the City of Rolla with the Meramec Regional Planning Commission, Rolla Regional Economic Commission, MoveRolla TDD Board, Forum Plaza CID Board and the Sustainable Ozark Partnership.
An active member of St. Patrick’s Church in Rolla, John and his wife, Trish, have five grown children and 4 grandchildren. John spends most of his free time with his family, playing music, gardening and participating in various sporting and outdoor activities.
The Central Workforce Development Board (CWDB) is composed of community leaders from local businesses, educational institutions, labor groups, community-based organizations, and governmental entities. The CWDB directs the implementation of publicly funded workforce development activities throughout the Central Workforce Development Region.
The Central Workforce Development Region encompasses 19 mid-Missouri counties including Audrain, Boone, Callaway, Camden, Cole, Cooper, Crawford, Dent, Gasconade, Howard, Laclede, Maries, Miller, Moniteau, Morgan, Osage, Phelps, Pulaski, and Washington. It also offers four full-service Missouri Job Center locations in Columbia, Jefferson City, Rolla, and Lebanon, along with satellite operations available in Fulton, Fort Leonard Wood, Osage Beach, and Potosi.
