Eager students of the Mexico JAG Program stepped joined the Columbia Job Center for a day of equipping them with tools to kickstart their careers.

Job Center Orientation: The day commenced with Francis Thompson’s enlightening Job Center orientation. Students were introduced to the wealth of resources and services available to them, setting the stage for a day filled with invaluable insights.

Career Networking: Roger Brisley took the reins for the next segment, focusing on the art of building connections in the professional world. From dressing for success to mastering job fair navigation and the dos and don’ts of social media in job searching, Roger’s expertise left a lasting impression.

Job Center Tour: A guided tour of the Job Center by Roger Brisley offered students a closer look at the state-of-the-art facilities and the supportive environment they could access as they embark on their career journeys.

Career Exploration Workshop: Wendy from COPIC led an engaging session on career exploration, highlighting various career pathways and introducing students to the Onet Interest Profiler. The possibilities seemed limitless as students learned about apprenticeships, internships, work experiences, job shadowing, and even opportunities in the U.S. Military.

Resume Preparation: Madison Wyse shared her wisdom on the art of crafting standout resumes, emphasizing the importance of making a compelling first impression in the competitive job market.

Career Exploration 2.0 with Transfr Goggles: In a hands-on and immersive session, Nichelle and Roger introduced “Transfr goggles” for career simulations. Students got a taste of what their future careers could entail, igniting their passions and aspirations.

Q&A and Wrap-up: The day concluded with an interactive Q&A session, addressing the burning questions of both students and teachers. The importance of the Job Center’s ongoing support was reiterated, ensuring that students know where to turn as they embark on their career journeys.

As the day wrapped up, students were encouraged to reflect on what they had learned and what steps they would take in the coming days and weeks to pursue their dreams. The Job Center team even discussed the possibility of follow-up visits to the school or sending instructors valuable resources to continue the guidance.
