The Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development (MDHEWD) celebrated the graduation of the Missouri Security Operations Center (MOSOC) Training Program’s inaugural class Friday afternoon in Columbia. The MOSOC Training Program provides high school seniors and young adults up to age 24 with the opportunity to earn a professional certificate in physical security.
The program’s eight-week classroom instruction began on April 7 with a total of 10 participants. Students spent this time learning about various aspects of physical security, including how to operate drones, robotic dogs, and camera and video management software, and how gunshot detection services are transforming the industry. Graduates will now complete 320 hours of paid on-the-job training with a partnering employer, with the goal of obtaining gainful, full-time employment in physical security.
“This program offers an exciting opportunity for high school seniors to get the training they need to jumpstart their career while still earning a bi-weekly paycheck,” said Dr. Bennett Boggs, Commissioner of the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development. “We are incredibly proud of today’s graduating class and the hard work they have put in to be proficient in physical security and competitive in securing employment in the industry.”

“Although the program is new, there has been a lot of enthusiasm from students and community partners alike about the opportunity,” said Julie Carter, Director of the Office of Workforce Development. “We are hopeful that the program will continue to grow, and we can expand this exciting opportunity to even more students across Missouri.”
Classes for the next three cohorts of the program are scheduled to begin June 16, August 25, and October 27. Students and employers interested in the program can contact David “DJ” Johnson, Youth Career Coach with the MOSOC Training Program, by email at david.johnson@dhewd.mo.gov.
The MOSOC Training Program is part of the Career Opportunity Training for Youth (COTY) program, which is federally funded by MDHEWD to provide high school students in Mid-Missouri an opportunity to gain the skills and training they need to prepare for their future careers.
