From Jobs League to Teaching Dreams: Cierra Brown’s Success Story

Cierra Brown’s journey toward achieving her dream of becoming a kindergarten teacher took a significant step forward when she was introduced to the Jobs League Program by Nancy Montgomery, Executive Director of the St. James Caring Center. Before her involvement with Jobs League, Cierra faced the challenge of finding employment due to her lack of work experience, making it difficult for her to earn the money needed for college.

Through the Jobs League Program, Cierra found an opportunity at the St. James Caring Center’s Thrift Store, where she took on various roles, including cashier, merchandiser, sorter, and receiver. The supportive environment of the Caring Center allowed her to develop valuable communication and teamwork skills while boosting her confidence. She learned to work alongside diverse personalities, an experience she now considers essential for her growth.

One of Cierra’s favorite parts of the job was interacting with regular customers. “Frequent customers were always glad to see me, and as I learned their names and what they were most interested in purchasing, I could guide them to the right area of the store,” she shared.

Thanks to the encouragement of Ms. Montgomery and the opportunities provided by the Jobs League program, Cierra is now registered to start college this fall, taking her closer to her goal of teaching kindergarten. The work experience she gained at the Caring Center also helped her secure a position at County Mart in the deli section, further strengthening her skills and opening more doors for her future.

“Without the Jobs League, this would not have been possible. I am thankful for the Caring Center, Jobs League, and the Rolla Job Center for their assistance,” said Brown. Now, with her sights set on becoming a teacher, Cierra’s dream is within reach, and her future looks bright.
