Job Search

Because Job Center staff are constantly thinking about jobs, they are uniquely qualified to assist you with your job search. Staff know the employers in the areas they serve. They care about successfully matching workers and employers because they live there. They are also connected to state-wide employment opportunities. Take advantage of all of the job search resources available to you in a Missouri Job Center.

JOBS.MO.GOV

The start of your search for employment opportunities begins with registering on jobs.mo.gov, Missouri’s job-matching website. Employers post new jobs daily. Staff are available to assist with completing the registration that opens up availability to many other services at the Job Center.

RESOURCE COMPUTERS

Increasingly, employers hire using online computer applications and systems. But what if you don’t have a computer with internet, or you don’t feel confident going online?

Computers are available in the Job Center for job search and applying for jobs on online job sites. Staff can assist completing online job applications and even attaching resumes, cover letters, references and other documents desired by employers.

Resume Assistance

A good resume can persuade an employer to invite you to come in for a job interview. In fact, that’s the main reason for a resume.

BUILD YOUR OWN RESUME

Build Your Own Resume using online job matching service, jobs.mo.gov. After registration, jobs.mo.gov leads you step-by-step through adding your background information to build your resume. Job Center staff can make suggestions or answer questions as you type in your information. Bring in a list of your work history, skills, education or other work-related information.

ONLINE RESUME WORKSHOPS

You may prefer to take more control over your resume by watching our resume workshop videos using a Job Center computer or with your computer, tablet or phone. Videos include what information to provide, how to state it, as well as proper formatting.

Interview Assistance

INTERVIEW WORKSHOPS

The interview workshops provide practical advice on acing your next job interview. Get helpful tips explaining how to present yourself and be ready to answer all types of interview questions. The interview is your best chance to convince an employer that you are a good match for their job

MOCK INTERVIEWS

Practice your interviewing skills in an environment similar to an actual interview. Mock interviews are available at a local Job Center, by phone, and also using video conferencing.  During the mock interview, staff will ask interview questions that are appropriate for the kind of work you are looking for, and then give you feedback and advice on how you can improve. Schedule a mock interview by calling a Job Center today.  

Veterans’ Career & Employment Services

PRIORITY OF SERVICE

Priority of Service for Veterans and family to employment, training and placement services. 

VETERANS’ CAREER TRANSITION ASSISTANCE

Veteran’s Representatives are available with personalized assistance with transitioning from military to civilian life, including job search, job development and placement, resume and interview assistance, and other Veteran-specific issues.

SHOW ME HEROES OJT

Show Me Heroes On-the-Job Training reimburses 50% of the wages of workers for up to 6 months of OJT. Available to  service members who are not honorably discharged and are within 5 years of their discharge date OR spouses of currently deployed or recently discharged eligible service members.

CAREER SKILLS PROGRAM

The Missouri Job Center partners with Fort Leonard Wood to place transitioning Active Duty service members into 4-5 month long Internships with a civilian organization.  Placements are able to be performed region-wide, and are conducted with the approval of the service member’s chain of command.

Career Club

A Virtual Work Experience

A virtual work experience with job placement after training, allowing participants to implement their newly developed skills. 

The virtual work experience exists to help job seekers establish good work habits, personal management skills, increase career awareness, learn money management principles, and more, helping them be successful in both the workforce and life. 

All you need is an internet connection and a computer.

Participants receive placement in a work experience at the end of the virtual training in a job that allows them to put their newly developed skills to use.

LinkedIn
 
is a social media platform for your Career. It enables you to network with others and build a career portfolio. You can also use it to look for a new job.

Glass Door allows users to search and apply for jobs, as well as read and leave reviews about working for employers. It also allows them to anonymously submit and view salaries, which can be helpful when discussing pay during interviews.

Career One Stop – U.S. Department of Labor site to explore careers, find training, search for jobs, and look for all things job-related in your local area. There is also an employer locator, which allows you to find employers of specific occupations in your specified location or area.

Jobscan is a tool that gives job seekers an analysis of how well their resume is tailored for a particular job and how it can be even better optimized for an online application. Visit the site and either paste in the text of your resume or upload a Word or PDF file, then paste the text of the job posting you have identified.

LANGUAGE RESOURCES

Interpreting services, written translation, website localization and subtitling services are available in 200 languages.

UbiDuo™ : The Missouri Career Centers offer the UbiDuo™ , a communication device that enables deaf, hard of hearing and hearing people to communicate with each other face to face, anywhere, anytime.

Assistive Technology: Missouri Career Centers offers assistive technology to assist individuals with disabilities, including WindowEyes screen reader, ZoomText screen enlarger, CCTV, height adjustable table and other assistive technologies.

REJOBS

Reentry Job Success Workshop – Provides constructive approaches to obtaining employment for those job seekers who have legal convictions or charges. Overcome employer reluctance to hire by communicating and demonstrating positive change and actions.

FEDERAL BONDING

For those that have a background that includes time spent in jail or correctional centers, getting hired can make all the difference for your future and your family. The Federal Bonding Program provides fidelity bonding to the employer who hires you for the first six months of your employment. It is simple and easy. The Job Center can help you use this program to give employers one more reason to hire you.
