A resource for job-seekers is coming.
Members of the Central Workforce Development Board signed a lease with First Christian Church Disciples of Christ late Wednesday morning, creating the opportunity for a job center to operate in Jefferson City again, after the community was without one for a few years.
Amy Sublett, director of the board, said it partners with the state to create Missouri Job Centers.
Workforce development boards and the Missouri Department of Workforce Development and Higher Education collaborate to help put people to work.
“Our whole point is to connect people to jobs,” Sublett said. “And if they’re not ready for jobs, to get them trained so they can get jobs.”
The Jefferson City tornado that struck May 22, 2019, destroyed the original job center, which was near Christy Drive, she said.
“Jeff City had no job center for 2½ years,” she added. “Then we reopened the job center in the Sears wing of the mall. Then the pandemic hit. We were out there a couple of years.”
