In 2021, Korianna found herself at a crossroads. Working as a patient care technician at a local hospital, she dreamed of pursuing a career in nursing but faced the challenge of balancing full-time work with full-time studies. That’s when she discovered the WIOA program, offering occupational skills training.
Enrolling in the State Fair Community College – Eldon Career Center nursing program, Korianna launched her journey toward her dream career. The road ahead was not easy, but with the support of WIOA and Job Center staff, she found the assistance she needed to navigate the challenges of tuition fees and commuting expenses.
“Nursing school is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges I’ve faced,” Korianna reflects. “But being in the WIOA program took a huge weight off my shoulders. Their tuition assistance and fuel expenses services made college more affordable, allowing me to focus on my studies without worrying about financial burdens.”

Korianna’s hard work and determination paid off when she graduated with her Associate’s Degree in Nursing in December 2023. But her journey didn’t end there. After passing the NCLEX, she officially became a licensed Registered Nurse on January 24th, 2024, marking a significant milestone in her career.
Today, Korianna is living her dream. Employed as a Registered Nurse in the Labor & Delivery unit at MU Women’s Hospital in Columbia, Missouri, she’s found fulfillment in a role she’s always aspired to. “Working in Labor & Delivery at MU Women’s Hospital is my dream job in my dream hospital,” Korianna shared enthusiastically.

It’s a reminder that anything is possible with hard work, dedication, and the right support system in place.
