The Central Workforce Development Region is excited to assist in empowering unemployed and underemployed Missourians to access sustainable careers in welding. 

What We Offer

TUITION ASSISTANCE

Qualified candidates benefit from tailored tuition assistance, ensuring access to top-notch welding training without financial barriers.

SUPPORTIVE SERVICES

Beyond tuition aid, our program may offer supportive services encompassing child care, transportation, housing, and more, aiming to eliminate barriers.

MULTIPLE TRAINING LOCATIONS

Our program offers training at diverse locations including MO Welding Institute, Iron Eagle, SFCC, and more, ensuring convenient access for welding education.

Requirements

Only ONE of the circumstances is required to qualify.

Laid-off or terminated due to COVID

Experienced lay-off or termination, received Unemployment Insurance payments and Unlikely to return to that occupation

Business Closure or Substantial Lay-off (10 or more workers laid-off)

Received Announcement/Letter that business is closing

Self-Employed: Business failed due to COVID

Displaced Homemaker: Supported by spouse; lost income due to death or divorce

Military spouse who lost income due to change of  duty station

Military spouse who is unemployed/underemployed

Unemployed 15 weeks within the prior 26 weeks 

AND…

Live in one of the 19 counties in the Central Region area.

*Job Center staff in participating counties will determine eligibility, which is based on state and federal guidelines. Participation is limited by availability of funds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is providing the funding for this program? 

Funding is provided through the QUEST grant (Quality Jobs, Equity, Strategy and Training), which exists soley for those who have been laid off or lost their jobs.

The Quality Jobs, Equity, Strategy, and Training (QUEST) Disaster Recovery National Dislocated
Worker Grant (DWG) is a collaborative effort to: (1) provide career and training services to
workers affected by the pandemic and historically marginalized and underserved population and
(2) Supportive Services to move individuals into high-quality jobs.

What does the grant support? 

The grant will support unemployed and underemployed Missourians to access, return to, or advance in high-quality jobs in infrastructure, environment and climate, the care economy, and other critical and growing industries.

The Central Region will focus solely on the career pathway of welding. 

How do I qualify? 

To determine eligibility, you will meet with a WIOA Case Manager, who will walk you through the application process. Once all documentation is properly processed, eligibility usually moves pretty quickly. 

What is WIOA? 

The Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) is landmark legislation that is designed to strengthen and improve our nation’s public workforce system and help get Americans, including youth and those with significant barriers to employment, into high-quality jobs and careers and help employers hire and retain skilled workers.
