Introduction to Warehousing (12-16 Weeks)

Warehouse curriculum is based on The Supply Chain Warehousing Certificate textbook developed by Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM) in partnership with Prologis.

Topics may include:

Taking part in the loading and shipping processes, and work with common shipping documents

Schedule shipments and use various methods to track the shipments

Follow an effective order fulfillment cycle and work to improve order accuracy and efficiency

Use inventory management systems in warehouses and distribution centers to accurately report the quantity and value of the materials received, stored and shipped to customers

Categorize inventory and manage the costs associated with holding inventory

Manage customer returns

Follow environmentally sustainable work practices on the job

Implement a structured problem-solving process to deal with problems in warehouses or distribution centers

Make appropriate decisions about the use of different types of transportation carriers, understanding their characteristics and the advantages and disadvantages of each

Apply different performance metrics to measure the success of a facility in the warehousing and distribution industry

Inventory system basics, Radio Frequency scanners, lift equipment operation (such as Walkie Rider, Cherry Picker, Lift, Electric Stand Up Forklift, Pallet Jack, Tugger), charging procedures, loading boxes, housekeeping, performance management systems, balers, shrink wrap, and receiving. Safety topics will include CPR/First Aid, OSHA 30, OSHA Forklift, conveyor belt, ergonomics, knife use, fall protection, safety checklists, and loading dock. May include CDL Permit.

In addition to classroom learning, worksite demonstration of competencies will occur at local warehouse businesses.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

8th-grade reading and math levels

Medical clearance/ physical tolerance

17 years of age or older – but may need to be 18 to qualify for some funding sources

Negative drug test for an internship

EMPLOYMENT OUTLOOKS:

Missouri Economic Research Information Center (MERIC) projections through 2030 show the growth rate of the warehousing industry is expected to climb 27.84% for the Central Missouri Region. This is an increase of 5,754 positions and the average salary for Production Occupations is reported at $39,175 as of 2021.
