From Standstill to Success: Jessica’s Journey to LPN Certification

Jessica Fonseca was once at a standstill, unsure which path to take. But when Covid-19 hit, she found her motivation to make a difference in people’s lives by pursuing a career in the healthcare field. That’s when she learned about the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Adult Program, which paved the way for her success. 

Before starting the program in June 2021, Jessica’s life was in limbo. She didn’t know where to turn and needed financial assistance to pursue her career goals. That’s when Missouri Job Center Career Consultants Dawnella Holt, Jeannie Woolsey, and Amanda Riley stepped in to help her get started on her new career path.

With the program’s financial support, Jessica attended Occupational Skills Training at Waynesville School of Practical Nursing for Licensed Practical Nursing certification. As a result, she obtained her diploma, IV certification, Basic Life Support certification, and the “Best Team Worker” award. In addition, the program provided her with the necessary training and helped her with tuition, books, supplies, and childcare assistance.

Jessica graduated from the program on June 30, 2022, with a new sense of purpose and a bright future.

Since completing the program, Jessica has landed a job at Compass Health at the Crisis Center in Rolla, MO. She is now able to support her family financially and live more freely. Her husband and sisters have noticed a positive change in her, seeing her thrive and be happy with her newfound career. Jessica is grateful for the help she received and the opportunity to start a new chapter in her life.
