Ethan Keppler’s passion for the marine industry was ignited in high school when his friend enrolled in a Marine Mechanics class during their Sophomore Year.
Intrigued by the subject, Ethan decided to pursue a future in this field. It was through Scott Miller, the instructor of the high school program, that he learned about the marine program at Lake Career and Technical Center.
Ethan enrolled in the program with a keen interest in the marine industry and a natural inclination for mechanics and commenced his training in the Fall of 2022.
Shayla Viele, Operations Facilitator, introduced him and the other new students to the Workforce Innovation & Opportunity Act (WIOA) program, highlighting the assistance it could provide. This opportunity allowed Ethan to receive much-needed tuition assistance.
Throughout his training, Ethan was supported by his assigned Career Consultant, Dawnella Holt, with the Lake Area Job Center Affiliate location.
In addition to classroom instruction, he participated in the Work Based Learning program at Bow to Stern in Macks Creek, MO. The practical experience gained during this study proved invaluable, and Ethan acquired a wealth of knowledge in the process.

In May 2023, Ethan successfully completed his training and was awarded a Certificate of Completion. He also earned a SkillsUSA Career Essentials certificate and a Yamaha Marine University certificate.
Notably, he was offered full-time employment at the marina, providing him with both financial stability and the opportunity to apply his newfound skills.
The hands-on experience from his work-based learning program, combined with the comprehensive training received, enabled Ethan to develop a diverse skill set. As a result, he quickly became the go-to person among his friends whenever they encountered mechanical issues, further solidifying his expertise.
“I appreciate the assistance I received while in the program and those who administer the program,” said Ethan. “I feel equipped to continue in my chosen career field with the knowledge and contacts needed to be successful.”
The training not only equipped him with the necessary knowledge but also allowed him to form close friendships. Instructor Timothy Keeney continues to provide support to Ethan.
With a bright future ahead, Ethan is excited to continue his journey in the marine industry and eager to make a successful mark in his chosen field.
Way to go, Ethan!
