Kalyn Smith was no stranger to caring for people under pressure. Working part-time in patient care and emergency medical services, she’d already proven she could handle the toughest moments in healthcare. What she wanted next was a career that matched her commitment.

When Kalyn came to a Central Region Job Center, she found the support to make it happen. Through the WIOA Adult program, the EDA Good Jobs Challenge Grant, and Healthy Blue, the Central Workforce Development Region helped Kalyn manage the costs of nursing school so she could focus on earning her degree.

Kalyn graduated from the Associate Degree in Nursing program at State Fair Community College, and today she works full-time as a Registered Nurse for Boone Health, earning a self-supporting wage with full benefits while caring for patients in her community.

“This program was amazing; everyone was so helpful and great to work with. WIOA helped me get through nursing school! Thank you!” said Kalyn.
