When Maria Wolfrum walked into the Central Job Center in December 2023, she was working part-time in retail sales and looking for something more — a career that could offer stability, purpose, and a future she could build on. What she found was a team ready to help her get there.
With support from WIOA Adult, the EDA Good Jobs Challenge, and Healthy Blue, which provided Medicaid coverage throughout her training, Maria enrolled in the Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) program at State Fair Community College in January 2024. It was the beginning of a journey that would change everything.
Nursing school is no small undertaking. The coursework is demanding, the hours are long, and balancing school with the realities of everyday life takes real grit. Maria brought all of that and more. She stayed focused, pushed through the hard stretches, and in December 2025 — two years after first walking through the Job Center doors — she crossed the stage as a State Fair Community College graduate.

One month later, she passed her boards and earned her Registered Nurse license.
Today, Maria Wolfrum is a full-time RN at Capital Region Medical Center in Jefferson City, doing meaningful work in her community every single day. She didn’t just find a new job. She built a new career, one that will serve her and the people she cares for for years to come.
Her story is a reminder of what becomes possible when someone has the courage to take that first step and the right support to back them up.Are you ready to take your next step? Contact your local Central Job Center today to find out what programs and training opportunities may be available to you.
