From Factories to Highways: Christabel’s WIOA Success Story

In today’s rapidly evolving job market, individuals often seek new opportunities to break away from mundane routines and pursue careers that align with their passions. Such was the case for Christabel Williams.

In February 2023, Christabel enrolled in the Clement Truck Driving Academy in Lebanon, MO, thanks to the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program, setting off a series of events that would change her life.

Tired of working in factories and craving a more meaningful career, Williams decided to explore the program after a friend recommended it to her. Guided by Amanda Riley, Career Consultant with the Lebanon Job Center, Christabel embarked on her journey towards becoming a truck driver.

Amanda’s constant communication and encouragement played a pivotal role in Christabel’s progress, helping her gain a deeper understanding of the program and learn everything necessary to move forward.

At the Clement Truck Driving Academy, Williams dedicated herself to the intensive training required to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). It was a significant departure from her previous work, but she was determined to make a difference and find a sense of purpose in her career. The academy provided her with the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the field of truck driving.

After completing her training, Christabel’s hard work paid off when she secured an Over-the-Road (OTR) driver position with TransLand in Springfield, Mo. The company recognized her potential and welcomed her with a sign-on bonus.

“I can pay my bills and still have some left over to go out and do things,” said Christabel. “All of my friends and family have said I seem happier now.”

Christabel’s story is a testament to the transformative power of the WIOA program. It demonstrates how someone like Christabel, driven by a desire for change, can find a rewarding career by embracing the opportunities offered.
