Riley Waters, a recent graduate of the Columbia College Lake of the Ozarks nursing program, is now a proud Registered Nurse working full-time for the University of Missouri. But her journey to success wasn’t without its challenges. Fortunately, the support of the Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) Adult, Occupational Skills Training Program, and Good Jobs Challenge Grant (EDA), made it possible for her to thrive while pursuing her dreams.

Before enrolling in the WIOA program, Riley worked part-time as a receptionist at an accounting firm, earning significantly less than her current wage.

“WIOA helped me achieve success while attending my associate’s degree nursing program. With their help, I was able to focus on my career without the extra financial stress. They made it possible for me to succeed while offering all kinds of support and kindness. They have truly helped me fulfill my dreams.”

Through the WIOA program, Riley received the financial support she needed to focus on her education without being overwhelmed by the financial strain that many students face.

Today, Riley earns over $13 more per hour than she did at the time of her enrollment—a significant milestone that highlights both her hard work and the impact of the program.

Riley’s story is a testament to how access to education and supportive resources can change lives. The WIOA Adult & Occupational Skills Training Program not only helped her earn her degree but also allowed her to take a major step forward in her career, entering the healthcare field where she can make a difference in the lives of others.

Way to go, Riley!
