When Meghan Zahnter walked into the Central Region Job Center in December 2023, she was juggling two part-time jobs, one as a CNA and another as a waitress. She had her sights set on something bigger: nursing school.
The following month, Meghan began the Associate Degree in Nursing program at State Fair Community College. For the next two years, she did what so many career changers in our region do every day. She worked part-time, attended school full-time, and kept pushing toward her goal.
She didn’t do it alone. Through a combination of the WIOA Adult program, the EDA Good Jobs Challenge Grant, and Healthy Blue, the Central Workforce Development Region helped Meghan cover the costs and challenges that stop so many promising students short of the finish line.

Today, Meghan is a licensed Registered Nurse working full-time for Lake Regional Health Systems, earning a great wage with full benefits and serving patients in her Miller County community.
“WIOA was an amazing program to be a part of,” said Meghan. “I could not have made it through nursing school without their help. I am especially thankful for Jaci and all the help she was able to give me!”
