Michael Casady, a United States Air Force Veteran who served as a Staff Sergeant (SSGT), was referred to the Columbia Job Center  by the VA on September 9, 2025. He arrived for his scheduled appointment the very next day and was enrolled in the Wagner-Peyser (WP), Jobs for Veterans State Grant (JVSG), and Vocational Rehabilitation & Employment (VR&E) programs.

During his initial assessment, Michael shared a story of resilience. After losing a job he had held for 20 years, he went back to school and earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management with an emphasis in Human Resources. He came to the Job Center with a clear direction, expressing a strong interest in Human Resources and Case Management.

Building a Plan for Success

His Employment Specialist provided an overview of available Job Center services, reviewed current labor market information in his fields of interest using O*Net and MERIC, and shared upcoming job fair dates. Together, they developed a personalized Individual Employment Plan (IEP) with short- and long-term goals outlining exactly how Michael would achieve them. His resume was updated and uploaded to his MoJobs account.

A Proactive Veteran in Action

Michael didn’t wait for opportunities to come to him; he went after them. He attended job fairs hosted by the Job Center, networked directly with employers, and applied to openings from referrals sent by his Employment Specialist. His efforts led to interviews with Boone County Corrections, the VA, and multiple positions with the State of Missouri.

Mission Accomplished: Full-Time Employment

On November 3, 2025, Michael Casady secured full-time employment with the Missouri Department of Social Services – Children’s Division as a Children’s Service Worker. The role is a natural fit, drawing on his organizational abilities, case management instincts, and customer service skills — all while offering a clear path for advancement.

Way to go, Michael!
