Mr. Lee recently completed professional truck driver training through Emery Sapp and Sons, where he received his Class A CDL. Emery Sapp & Sons (ESS) of Columbia and the Central Workforce Development Region collaborated to implement a CDL Apprenticeship Program to meet ESS demand for Class “A” CDL Truck Drivers.

Upon completion of training, Lee participated in on-the-job training, followed by an offer for full-time employment, earning a large pay increase. Lee enthusiastically shared that the CDL training program was life-changing for him, and he’s so happy to be working for Emery Sapp & Sons.

When Mr. Lee came to the Job Center, he bounced around jobs feeling like he couldn’t find his fit. His most recent position was as a laborer for a storage company earning $17/hr. The job was very physically demanding and more than he felt he could handle.

He struggled, feeling like he couldn’t find a position that he could excel in, one that really fit. So he came to the Job Center hoping to change that. He was assisted by COPIC Career Consultant Amanda Riley, and according to Mr. Lee, “She put me on the course that changed my life.”

Thanks to WIOA funding, Mr. Lee has found a job that he enjoys and excels in and supports himself and his family. He has increased his hourly wage tremendously!

Mr. Lee shared that thanks to the Job Center and this program, he has accomplished lifelong goals, including buying a car, having a savings account, and, most recently- closing on a new home!
