When Colin Richardson first walked into a Central Region Job Center, he was piecing together a living with two part-time jobs, one as a retail associate and another as a nursing assistant. That nursing assistant role wasn’t just a paycheck, though. It was a glimpse of where he wanted to go.
Colin enrolled in the Associate Degree in Nursing program at State Fair Community College, and he didn’t have to take the journey alone. Through the WIOA Adult program and Healthy Blue, the Central Workforce Development Region helped Colin manage the costs of his education so he could focus on the work in front of him.
That focus paid off. Colin graduated and is now working full-time as a Registered Nurse for the University of Missouri, serving patients and building a career in his community.
The Workforce Link Podcast offers forward thinking conversations for the workforce, linking employers and job seekers to a brighter tomorrow. Check out the details here…
The numbers tell the story. Colin has nearly doubled his hourly wage from his part-time days, and he now has full benefits to go with it.
Colin’s path from nursing assistant to Registered Nurse is one more example of the talent already living in our region, just waiting for the right opportunity. If you’re ready to turn your part-time grind into a full-time career, your local Job Center can help you get there.
