Noah Heltzel was barely making ends meet in the summer of 2021, and the financial stress was taking a toll on him. But he decided to do something about it and started looking into other careers.

That’s when he enrolled in the Missouri Sheriffs’ Association Academy through Missouri State University, with assistance from the Lebanon Job Center and Workforce Innovation Opportunity Act (WIOA) funding.

With WIOA funding, Career Managers Dawnella Holt and Amanda Riley were able to assist Heltzel with tuition, training supplies, and gas assistance. “They made sure I had everything I needed,” said Noah.

After completing the academy in May 2022, Heltzel earned a State of Missouri Department of Public Safety License, Missouri Sheriffs’ Association Diploma, and multiple training certifications. He now serves as a deputy with the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office in Waynesville, Mo.

“This changed my future because I got my degree and certification for law enforcement.  It helped me focus more on what I wanted to do,” shared Heltzel. “And I can keep up with my bills and support my daughter.”

Congratulations, Noah, and thank you for helping protect Pulaski County’s citizens.
